How to Change Your Mind for a Better Life

Life can come at us in many unexpected ways. If we allow it, it will knock us on our butts before we see it coming. But what if I told you, there’s a way around that? Guess what? There is!

Let me tell you a story…my story! About six years ago, I got a job working for a good company in their call center. I took calls for about eight hours a day, five days a week.

I encountered disrespect from customers daily and was constantly being micro managed. In a short period of time, I found myself hating my job. I called off often and had to give myself a pep talk before going in.

Though I was the best representative in my department, I couldn’t take it anymore, so when the opportunity came to move to another state, I put in my two weeks even though I didn’t have another job lined up.

Shortly after moving, everything fell apart. My husband lost his job and money was dwindling at a rapid pace. Once our one year lease was up, we were forced to move back home, but it wasn’t that easy. Because we didn’t have our own place, he had to move to his hometown and my youngest daughter and I moved in with my sister while my oldest two children moved in with their father since there wasn’t enough room at my sister’s.

On top of that, my relationship was constantly spiraling out of control which eventually put me into depression. As a result, I kept a negative mind and held myself responsible for the events that occurred. I beat myself up for quitting my job and I grew resentment towards my husband for allowing our lives to fall apart.

In my eyes, life got so bad for me. Desperately looking for answers, I searched the internet for motivation before it was too late. Eventually, I found a plethora of empowering videos and books that made a huge impact on my life.

Most of the videos and books I encountered had a similar theme: change your thoughts! After allowing those words to sink in, it did wonders for me. Instead of allowing the negativity to control my life, I focused on the positive and followed other means for a better me. So, what are those things, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you, but first, if you’re skeptical, watch these videos because this stuff works:

Train your subconscious with affirmations

Your subconscious is the essential key to change your reality. If you think you’re a failure, then your subconscious will believe it and you’ll start living in that mind frame. If you believe you’re a millionaire, then your subconscious will believe that, too. Get it? So, how can you get your subconscious on board with what you want? Simple! Through affirmations. Start saying specific things to yourself such as, “I am prosperous” or “I am healthy.” Once you feel the power behind those words, your subconscious will bring things to you to make that happen.

Don’t beat yourself up

When things don’t work out the way we expect, we can put a lot of emotion into blaming ourselves or “beating ourselves up.” This causes us to fall into a negative state. STOP! Understand everything serves a purpose. That obstacle or challenge could have happened to allow you to grow as an individual. Heck, it could have happened because what you really wanted just wasn’t the time. At the end of the day, forgive yourself and move on.

Change negative thoughts into positive ones

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Whenever you’re thinking negatively, find the positive. Don’t feed negativity. If you hate going into your job everyday and wish you could just walk out and crawl back under that cozy comforter, don’t! Be positive and tackle the day!

Be grateful and appreciative

This one goes a long way! Let’s take the last point for example. So, you’re at a job you hate, right? You’re sick of your manager breathing his hot coffee and bacon breath down the back of your neck every five minutes. You wish you could give several people a piece of your mind, right? You want to quit on the spot with nothing lined up. Welp, you better be grateful you have that job you don’t like because it’s keeping you from being homeless and hungry. Think about that the next time you walk past a homeless person and be appreciative your manager thought you were the best fit for the position-even if you are working the busy drive-thru or cleaning filthy toilets.

Though there are many things you can do for a better mindset, these are good starting points. At the end of the day, if you want better, you have to take control of how you see and react to what takes place in your life. Once you accomplish this, great things will unfold.

For me, once I changed my thought process and stopped letting negativity rule my life, good things manifested. My husband found us a place, I’ve been signed to a publishing company, and I’ve recently volunteered with EnVision Proven Success who provides knowledge to women and resources to help women improve their quality of life.

Now, keep in mind, this won’t be an overnight process so, don’t give up because you don’t see immediate results. Your mind works off of habit, so get into the habit of positivity. Try it for thirty days and let me know how that works out!
